In our Hypothesis we said " materials are efficient then the materials will contain and absorb the oil on the water." Our hypothesis was proven correct in the end. 95% of the oil was absorbed, and 95% was contained in the container. Some possible errors could have been that the materials were not used properly, or we did not mix the contains correctly
The reason we used dish soap is because it is used everyday to contain oil form food trays and cutlery. This will help contain the oil in the water. thee suds will also help contain the oil. Even though the oil sank to the bottom when it was mixed it raised to the top of the water.
We used the paper to also contain and absorb the oil too. we put them on top of the water and pulled it through the water. It pulled the oil and the soap suds into a corner. They absorbed some of the oil in the container, it did not do much but it still helped absorb most of the oil.
We used the baking soda and vinegar to contain the oil too. we thought that it would work because the chemical reaction happened before it got into the water. I did not do much at all in this experiment.
The cotton balls were used to absorb the oil form the water. They were our best option for absorbing the oil. the trapped 55% of the oil in the fibers too.
In conclusion our experiment was a success 75% of the oil was contained and 100% was absorbed.
